Tel-Aviv boulevards were started by accident. Achuzat Bait, the neighborhood that was the core of the city of Tel-Aviv was built on two sand dunes. When they flattened the area to prepare it for construction the narrow depression, or “wadi,” between the dunes was filled up with sand, and because of that, was regarded as unfit for construction. The empty strip then became Rothschild Boulevard, the first boulevard in Tel-Aviv. The urban plan, developed for the city in the mid-twenties, extended the first boulevard and created what is known today as the Boulevards Belt. This green strip cuts through the heart of the city and provides some great views of its inner parts. The Boulevards Belt serves as a unique bike trail, which is the main route of our ride across the city center. This ride enables us to follow the urban development of Tel-Aviv, and to get to know some of the cultural and historic attractions of the first Hebrew city.
